We manage your personal information in accordance with BC’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and other applicable laws. This policy outlines the principles and practices we follow in protecting your personal information.

Site Registration
Site visitors are required to register to participate in a Discussion Forum or to join a Community Network Group. Personal information is collected in the registration process solely for the purpose of providing access and site features.
What is personal information?
Personal information means information about an identifiable individual. This includes an individual’s name, home address and phone number.
What personal information do we collect?
We collect only the personal information that we need for the purposes of providing access to our website features such as the Discussion Forums and Community Network, including personal information needed to:
- register a site visitor as a participant in public Discussion Forums
- register a site visitor as a member of a private Community Network Group
- email Community Group or member information
We inform our site visitors, before or at the time of collecting personal information, of the purposes for which we are collecting the information.
Consent
We assume your consent to continue to use personal information that we have already collected, for the purpose for which the information was collected.
In cases that do not involve sensitive personal information, we may rely on “opt-out” consent. For example, we may disclose your contact information to other members of any private Community Group you join. You adjust your personal information settings in the “Profile Visibility’ option, in the ‘Settings’ menu on the ‘My Profile’ page.
A member of a private group may withdraw may request their account and personal information be deleted at any time. Please make your request to admin@ourenvironmentbc.ca.
How do we use and disclose personal information?
We use and disclose site user’s personal information only for the purpose for which the information was collected, except as authorized by law. For example, we may use a registrant or member’s contact information to deliver Discussion Forum and Community Network Group email notifications.
We never disclose or share any personal information with any third party.
Comments
When forum participants or group members leave posts on the site we collect the data shown in the post form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you login, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish a comment or article or post a Topic or reply in a Discussion Forum, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

We do not share your data with anyone, ever.
How long we retain your data
For visitors that register on our website, we store the personal information they provide in their user registration form and profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Site administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments or posts, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.
